A recent higher ed article (link) has indicated that apprenticeship opportunities could provide a key method of reducing the worker shortage experienced by many industries. Apprenticeships, along with other alternative career pathways such as academic Certificates, non-credit credentialing, and on-the-job upskilling are possible solutions to this shortage.
Extension in many states is positioned to help support these efforts by offering educational content or training opportunities. Extension has a strong history of working with those who would benefit the most from these opportunities (high turnover workers without degrees, those entering the workforce without degrees, underemployed college graduates, and employees looking for upskilling for better pay).
What are some of the programs your LGU has implemented or planning that would help meet the worker shortage in critical employment areas? Share in the comments on what is working and where we need to go.
