Resources for National Rural Health Day

Today is National Rural Health Day! On this day, we recognize the impact that Cooperative Extension is making in rural communities across the country. At the Foundation, we have the opportunity to serve professionals in the system that are on the ground making a difference, whether that is the 96 Extension projects we serve through the Extension Collaborative on Immunization Teaching & Engagement (EXCITE), programs that participate in the Impact Collaborative and the 1890 Extension Leadership Academy, or projects served through New Technologies for Ag Extension.

We’d like to share some resources with you recently published to our Publications database from projects served through the New Technologies for Ag Extension program:

Wellness in Tough Times Toolkit, University of Nebraska-Lincoln

The β€œWellness in Tough Times Toolkit" publication contains resources, stories, and lessons learned by an NTAE team and partners in Nebraska.  The Wellness in Tough Times (WTT) project supports Nebraskans affected by multiple stressors: The continuing downturn in the agricultural economy, a year of record-breaking disasters that impacted Nebraskans from border-to-border, and a global pandemic created challenges that took us all into uncharted waters.

Building Farm and Farm Family Resilience in our Communities: A Guide for Extension Professionals to Engage Strategically, University of Delaware and University of Maryland

The purpose of this guide is to strengthen the ability of Extension professionals to reduce risk and stressors and increase the resilience of farms and farming families within the context of a socioecological framework. The guide was created to help professionals think and act through a research-based, theory-informed, multidisciplinary approach to addressing problems and issues, and creating solutions.

Using American Community Survey to Understand Your Community, Virginia Tech

This publication will show you how to use data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey (ACS) to find and interpret valuable information about your community that will help you make data-driven decisions.

About the Extension Foundation

The Extension Foundation was formed in 2006 by Extension Directors and Administrators. Today, the Foundation partners with Cooperative Extension through liaison roles and a formal plan of work with the Extension Committee on Organization and Policy (ECOP) to increase system capacity while providing programmatic services, and helping Extension programs scale and investigate new methods and models for implementing programs. The Foundation provides professional development to Cooperative Extension professionals and offers exclusive services to its members. In 2020 and 2021, the Extension Foundation has awarded 85% of its direct funding back to the Cooperative Extension System, 100% of funds are used to support Cooperative Extension initiatives.

This technology is supported in part by New Technologies for Ag Extension (funding opportunity no. USDA-NIFA-OP-010186), grant no. 2023-41595-41325 from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture.
