During my senior year in High School, we were fortunate to play in the football state playoffs. Throughout the experience, at home or away games, signs hung up in our locker room with this saying...
If you think you are beaten, you are.
If you think you dare not, you don't.
If you'd like to win but think you can't,
it's almost certain you won't.
Life's battles don't always go
to the stronger or faster man,
but sooner or later, the man who wins
is the man who thinks he can.
We made it to the state championship game because, no matter the opponent, we played for each other and believed we had a chance to be victorious.
Like a skipping stone across the water, our attitude spreads to others through our behaviors. Like a smile that affects at least three people beyond ourselves, our attitudes are infectious. Here's what Charles Swindoll says about the power of attitude...
"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts, it is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do.
It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company...a church...a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day.
We cannot change our past...we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable.
The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude...I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you...we are in charge of our attitudes."
You've probably also seen this little gem posted on social media sites...
Coincidence or not?
If "A through Z" = 1 through 26
Then...
KNOWLEDGE = 11+14+15+23+12+5+4+7+5 = 96%
HARD WORK = 8+1+18+4+23+15+18+11 = 98%
Both are important but fall just short of 100%
But...
ATTITUDE 1+20+20+9+20+21+4+5 = 100%
Attitude is infectious. Attitude is influential.
It's a big part of your leadership so...
