Your Leadership & Culture

Karl Bradley ·
These days we don't have to look far for articles on how to positively affect workplace culture. The founder of Southwest Airlines, Herb Kelleher, was once asked by an employee if they could serve sandwiches on their flights. He responded by asking if that would help them become THE low-cost airlines in the industry? It didn't so they don't! Every great leader believes their leadership can make a difference in their organization & helps keep everyone focused on their vision of what that...

APHA Annual Meeting Deadline Extended to September 10

Roger Rennekamp ·
If you have never attended the Annual Meeting of the American Public Health Association (APHA) because of the added cost of travel, meals, and lodging then this may be your to attend the all-virtual conference. Better yet, is that workshop will also be available on-demand after the conference, so you won't have to among sessions in the same time block. This is a big conference with over 1,000 concurrent sessions. For more information, visit https://www.apha.org/events-and-meetings/annual

Re: Email issues? Read this!

Bonnie Braun ·
Karl, These hints are quite helpful. I've preached and practiced making the subject line helpful to the reader. I often add a date if there's a deadline. I appreciate the same for others. Your article brought some new ideas which I intend to incorporate. I also like the logic structure you suggest for the action oriented emails. I find it's helpful to understanding and cuts time when the sender makes it clear what I'm to do with the email. Bonnie Braun

This series is led by Karl Bradley, Leadership Development Specialist, eXtension Foundation. Last year we all pivoted quickly as we redefined how to accomplish our work almost exclusively in shared virtual spaces. The topics in this series are a result of our work with individuals & teams from across Cooperative Extension wondering: What does...

Questions or Complaints?

Karl Bradley ·
“Only self-confidence makes freedom & dissent possible. An organization that brainwashes employees to think alike will only breed complacency & make itself unappealing to anyone who might inject some oxygen into it.” – Ricardo Semler Think about a time when you were offended by a complaint. Perhaps it was a question someone posed. Did it feel like it was directed at you in a meeting in front of others? Do you remember your response? Was it appropriate for the situation? Was it...
