Using Virtual Communities to Support Volunteer Retention

Duplicate event posting - please see https://learn.extension.org/events/1176

MSU Extension is pleased to offer professional development opportunities designed to assist youth development program staff and volunteer administrators in their efforts. Sessions are designed from the youth development perspective; however, all interested participants are welcome.

Volunteers who have strong relationships with staff and other volunteers are more likely to continue volunteering. However, reduced resources and cultural shifts make in-person activities harder to sustain, proving previous relationship-building methods to be more difficult. This webinar describes how an online community supported volunteer relationships for participants who engaged actively through contributing posts as well as more passively through reading posted conversations.

Pre-registration for this event is not required; however, it is strongly encouraged. Please consider registering at http://events.anr.msu.edu/VirtualCommunities2013/

About the Extension Foundation

The Extension Foundation was formed in 2006 by Extension Directors and Administrators. Today, the Foundation partners with Cooperative Extension through liaison roles and a formal plan of work with the Extension Committee on Organization and Policy (ECOP) to increase system capacity while providing programmatic services, and helping Extension programs scale and investigate new methods and models for implementing programs. The Foundation provides professional development to Cooperative Extension professionals and offers exclusive services to its members. In 2020 and 2021, the Extension Foundation has awarded 85% of its direct funding back to the Cooperative Extension System, 100% of funds are used to support Cooperative Extension initiatives.
