About Dr. Dawn Mellion:

Dawn A. Mellion, PhD, MBA is a retired Vice Chancellor for Extension and Outreach at Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. Her programming portfolio includes whole farm planning, leadership development, and managing agricultural risks. Her work in the field of agriculture has provided her with several awards and accolades, most notably she was recognized by her alma mater, Iowa State University in 2018 with the George Washington Carver Distinguished Service award and by Tuskegee University in 2019 as the Thomas M. Campbell Leadership Award and in 2017. In 2013, she was recognized by the 1890 Association of Extension Administrators and has also received the USDA NIFA Cooperative Extension System Outstanding Leadership Award. Since retiring in 2021, she has served as an Ag Extension Catalyst and mentor for the Extension Foundation where she supports the development of Extension professionals across the Cooperative Extension System. Dr. Mellion supports the mentoring of emerging leaders and is an advocate for developing and growing the 1890 land grant system.

About the Extension Foundation

The Extension Foundation was formed in 2006 by Extension Directors and Administrators. Today, the Foundation partners with Cooperative Extension through liaison roles and a formal plan of work with the Extension Committee on Organization and Policy (ECOP) to increase system capacity while providing programmatic services, and helping Extension programs scale and investigate new methods and models for implementing programs. The Foundation provides professional development to Cooperative Extension professionals and offers exclusive services to its members. In 2020 and 2021, the Extension Foundation has awarded 85% of its direct funding back to the Cooperative Extension System, 100% of funds are used to support Cooperative Extension initiatives.
