Urban Agriculture and Food Systems Program Action Team Fellow and Workforce Development Coordinator Position Available

 

Summary: One individual is needed to fill an Urban Agriculture and Food Systems Coordinator role across the LGU system with the Urban Ag and Food Systems PAT and AgriProspects. As Urban programs are active across the country, the incumbent will serve as a lead with assistance in program execution from other AgriProspect coordinators, specifically those where CES regions overlap. This critical position will help build and engage our national network of partners working to provide access to skills training and credentialing in the Urban Agriculture space.

Position Available: Urban Agriculture and Food Systems Program Action Team Fellow and Workforce Development Coordinator

Time Frame: This position is available for a one year contract of $30,000 with a potential renewal of up to an additional four years.

The recipient can use funds to support the portion of an FTE commensurate with the incumbent’s current rate of salary and benefits. Contracts will be on a year-to-year basis, subject to annual review and renewal determined upon available funding.

Full Position Description

The Extension Foundation seeks a dynamic, collaborative individual to serve as the Urban Agriculture and Food Systems Program Action Team Fellow and Workforce Development Coordinator to align the supply of trained workers to the demand for agricultural jobs by developing and delivering a national agriculture workforce development framework.

This position is supported by the New Technologies for Ag Extension (funding opportunity no. USDA-NIFA-OP-010186), grant no. 2023-41595-41325 from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture and the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture AFRI Education and Workforce Development Competitive Grant 2023-67037-40533.

As the Urban Agriculture and Food Systems Program Action Team Fellow and Workforce Development Coordinator, the primary responsibilities will be to support the AgriProspects Workforce Regional Coordinators to:

  • Ensure urban opportunities are identified and integrated into the overall AgriProsprects project
  • Identify, assess, and catalog urban ag workforce development curricula and programs and enter these into the AgriProspects Clearinghouse under development
  • Plan and carry out education and outreach activities in conjunction with AgriProspects’ Regional Coordinators
  • Build relationships with urban ag and food systems workforce intermediaries, industries, and agencies to gain insights into their needs and translate them into new opportunities for Extension, the Program Action Team, and AgriProspects
  • Coordinate and review submissions for the AgriProspects’ mini-grant program
  • Develop creative engagement strategies to strengthen connections within the existing network
  • Attend regular monthly Urban Ag and Food Systems PAT meetings to ensure the body of work is coordinated between the two entities

The successful Urban Agriculture and Food Systems Program Action Team Fellow and Workforce Development Coordinator will demonstrate existing knowledge of urban ag and food systems, workforce development, knowledge of Cooperative Extension program development and delivery, and a passion for building the foundations for future programmatic efforts nationwide. The successful coordinator will focus on building widespread relationships, spurring engagement, fostering collaboration, building practice, and addressing needs within the network.

This position will work as team members in coordination with the Extension Foundation Program Manager, ECOP Urban Ag and Food Systems PAT leadership, and AgriProspects National Network and Content Leads. Work hours are flexible, with an expected workload of 10-15 hours per week, which will vary based on workload underway. Some travel will be required. A letter of support from the applicant’s Extension Director is required to be considered for the position.

The Urban Agriculture and Food Systems Program Action Team Fellow and Workforce Development Coordinator is housed within the Extension Foundation, reporting to the AgriProspects Program Director. This is a virtual position with some travel to meetings. Personal online/computer access/equipment will be required for daily work.
