Mistakes leaders make...

 

Some mistakes leaders make...

  • Putting themself ahead of others; not being self-aware and/or self-reflective.
  • Betraying others' trust
  • Being certain; (Re)acting too fast
  • Not living up to their own values; inauthentic
  • Overly enamored with their own vision; arrogance

If it seems like it's all about you, you're in the gig for the wrong reason.  It shouldn't be all about the leader.

Trust must be present for there to be betrayal.  This is the worst & perhaps hardest for people to recover from.  You can't rebuild what you rely on others to give you.  Trust has to thrive for a "team" to be realized otherwise it's just a group of people.

Embracing the uncertainty of life is a strength not a weakness.  To develop the necessary agility for life, be the person who can allow people to fail but not feel like a failure.

Not being authentic is a sure way to ensure trust won't exist.  Have the courage to live into your values so others can live into theirs.  This is the true diversity that needs embracing.

Your preferred vision of the future isn't all there is.  Become a keynote listener so engagement can grow.  Your vision will be better when it's combined with other perspectives.

My 2 things: Leadership is realizing it's not about you, it's what you're doing to serve others. Leadership is all about you & how your behaviors provide the evidence of your authentic intentions.

The Extension Foundation was formed in 2006 by Extension Directors and Administrators. Today, the Foundation partners with Cooperative Extension through liaison roles and a formal plan of work with the Extension Committee on Organization and Policy (ECOP) to increase system capacity while providing programmatic services, and helping Extension programs scale and investigate new methods and models for implementing programs.
