Draft Protocols of the 2025 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee Now Online at DietaryGuidelines.gov

Posted on June 2, 2023 by HHS/ODPHP

The 2025 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee recently held its second meeting, where members discussed their list of prioritized questions that focus on the relationship of diet and health across the lifespan. As part of the discussions, the Committee presented draft protocols for the majority of the scientific questions. The draft protocols discussed at the meeting are now online.

A protocol – or plan – is developed for questions answered using systematic review or food pattern modeling methodologies. A protocol describes how the methodology will be tailored to answer a specific question. The protocol is created before the Committee reviews the evidence and is made publicly available through DietaryGuidelines.gov for review and public comment.

To ensure the Committee is able to review public comments as they finalize protocols, the public is encouraged to submit comments about the protocols by June 30, 2023. The few remaining protocols to be developed and a data analysis plan will be posted after it is discussed by the Committee at a future public meeting.

The Committee will meet approximately six times and will conduct its work until late 2024. All meetings are open to the public virtually, and registration will open at least 15 days in advance of the meeting. The next meeting will include an opportunity for the public to provide oral comments to the Committee. More information about registration for oral comments will be provided closer to the meeting date. The Committee’s work will culminate in a scientific report for the Secretaries of HHS and USDA.
