Call for conference proposals: Association of Science Communicators

You are invited to submit proposals for the Association of Science Communicators annual conference, Science Talk ’25. It’s a hybrid conference, with virtual programming March 26 through April 4 and in-person April 3–4 in Raleigh, North Carolina. This year’s theme is “Science With Society”: Our greater ecosystem is one of civic science, open science, community science, public engagement, science policy, science journalism, equity in STEM, and more. But more often than not, what should be a cohesive system is instead fragmented. We believe science communication is a critical foundation and central connector between these diverse areas of science and society. How can we embrace spanning these boundaries to solve problems and benefit society together? Proposals for short talks, workshops, and panels are open now through Monday, September 30 at 11:59pm PT.

I am the newsletter editor for ASC and have attended the in-person conference twice. At the 2024 conference, I gave a short talk on science communication in Extension, which was very well received by attendees, many of whom were not yet familiar with Extension. The typical attendees of ASC conferences run the gamut from science writers to museum exhibit designers to public health department employees to social media content creators and more. I would love to see more folks from the Extension world get involved with ASC so that all those other groups can learn from the boundary-spanning public engagement work that Extension excels at. Here’s more about the conference: https://www.associationofsciencecommunicators.org/conferences/science-talk-25/.

Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about the conference or ASC in general.

Best,
Scott
