Youth and Social Media: Insights from Research in Education

MSU Extension is pleased to offer professional development opportunities designed to assist youth development program staff and volunteer administrators in their efforts. Sessions are designed from the youth development perspective; however, all interested participants are welcome.

The advent of social media has not only changed the way that we communicate, but also the way that we teach and learn. Dr. Christine Greenhow will discuss her research and trends in the research literature on social media in education. Her current projects include the Youth and Social Media Study, which investigates how young people develop knowledge in social media environments, and the second, Minnesota Daily, which focuses on building student-to-student connections within an educational institution in order to better understand how learning and participation are conceptualized in online spaces inhabited by young adults. Dr. Greenhow’s presentation will focus especially on what we know about the impacts of social media on learning and the implications of these findings for youth workers and youth development organizations.

Pre-registration for this event is encouraged but not required. To pre-register, please visit: http://events.anr.msu.edu/event.cfm?folder=FacultyWebinar513
