Using Community Supported Enterprises to Address Shrinking Markets in Rural Areas

This webinar describes a guidebook that local development practitioners can use in working with groups to start community supported enterprises that start or reopen essential businesses such as grocery stores in their communities. The purpose of these enterprises is to provide local access to goods and services but also strengthen the social capital in the community. CSEs are now used to provide social services as well. Examples of successful CSEs will be discussed along with essential elements needed to make them succeed.

Presented by: Norman Walzer, Northern Illinois University and David Ivan, Michigan State University
