The Appalachian Virginia Community Food Security Assessment: Findings and Implications for the Appalachian Virginia Food Systems Network

The Southwest Virginia Community Food Security Assessment (pdf) was conducted as a partnership between the Appalachian Foodshed Project (AFP) and the Appalachian Virginia Food Systems Network (AVFSN). The goal of the assessment is to support the on-going work of southwest Virginia community food security practitioners and community partners.

Join Phil D'Adamo-Damery (Virginia Tech, Appalachian Foodshed Project), Kelli Scott (Montgomery County VCE, Appalachian Virginia Food Systems Network), Jerry Moles (Grayson Landcare), and Kim Niewolny (Virginia Tech, Department of Agricultural, Leadership, & Community Education) for a discussion of the assessment findings and next steps for food systems work in southwest Virginia.

We will be sharing our learnings from the recently completed Appalachian Virginia Community Food Security Assessment. Part of the session will be focused on how these learnings are impacting our thinking about distributed networks as a mechanism for building food systems that are more resilient and equitable.

If you can't make the webinar in real time, an archived recording will be available on the AFP website.

This is the first of our series on the AFP community food security assessments, conducted in southwest Virginia, western North Carolina, and West Virginia. Our second installment on the western North Carolina assessment will be on Tuesday, April 19th at 12pm ET.
