Soil Health Digital Cafe Series: Gaining Ground-Soil as a Renewable Resource

The Soil Health Nexus is hosting a series of informal soil health webinars featuring Extension soil health experts and researchers from across the region discussing the latest soil health research, resources, and news. The webinars will take place weekly starting Wednesday, April 29 at 2pm CT. They will be an hour in length with a 20-minute presentation, followed by 10-minutes of Q&A and then a casual 30-minute Digital Cafe where attendees can continue to discuss the topic in more depth with Soil Health Nexus members.

Can health of a degraded soil be regenerated?  We use the term β€˜regenerative agriculture,’ but what does it mean and does science suggest degraded soils can realistically be brought back to original productivity levels?  And if it can, how long will it take?  Tune in to hear from Rick Cruse of the Iowa Water Water as he discusses the time required to potentially regenerate components of a healthy soil and identify the most critical soil degradation processes common with today’s agriculture.

About the Extension Foundation

The Extension Foundation was formed in 2006 by Extension Directors and Administrators. Today, the Foundation partners with Cooperative Extension through liaison roles and a formal plan of work with the Extension Committee on Organization and Policy (ECOP) to increase system capacity while providing programmatic services, and helping Extension programs scale and investigate new methods and models for implementing programs. The Foundation provides professional development to Cooperative Extension professionals and offers exclusive services to its members. In 2020 and 2021, the Extension Foundation has awarded 85% of its direct funding back to the Cooperative Extension System, 100% of funds are used to support Cooperative Extension initiatives.
