Horse Management Seminar

Due to the in-person group meeting policies, and to make the event as convenient as possible for all attendees, we have decided to keep the Horse Management Seminar as a virtual format for one more year. The format will be similar to last year, and will instead consist of three Tuesday evening webinars on February 8th, 15th, and 22nd, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM.

To register go to: https://go.rutgers.edu/2022HMS

Each webinar will feature two speakers who will focus on “Recent Advances” in Health, Genetics, and Nutrition. Each evening will focus on one topic area and will end with an “Ask the Expert Live” panel hosted by Dr. Carey Williams, Equine Extension Specialist and the Associate Director of Outreach for the Rutgers Equine Science Center, as well as the evening’s speakers. Attendees will have time to ask questions about the presentations and are also encouraged to bring questions to the webinars based upon the subject area for that night. The schedule includes:

February 8th - Recent Advances in Veterinary Medicine

“New Advances with Equine Diseases - Lyme, EHV, PHF, and more!” By: Dr. Mark Crisman, DVM, MS, DACVIM, Senior Veterinarian, Equine Technical Services, Zoetis

“What is new, tried and true with equine rehabilitation and conditioning?” By: Dr. Sarah Gold, DVM, DACVSMR, B.W. Furlong & Associates

February 15th - What’s New in Equine Genetics and Health

“Genomics in the horse industry: discovering new questions at every turn” By: Dr. Samantha Brooks, University of Florida

“Equine Metabolic Syndrome: What is ID, why do we care and how do we manage?”   By: Dr. Amanda Adams, University of Kentucky

February 22nd - Recent Advances in Equine Nutrition

“Nutrition and rotational grazing, metabolism and microbiome” By: Dr. Jennifer Weinert-Nelson, formally Rutgers University, currently USDA-ARS Post-Doc, Lexington, KY

“New findings on CBD/Hemp in Horse Nutrition” By: Anna Collins, Murray State University

Attendees can register for one specific webinar or for all three at the same time using the same link (above). The webinars are FREE to attend, however in order to facilitate a more engaged live audience with the speakers they will not be posted to the archived webinars immediately after the program.

For questions, please contact Dr. Carey Williams at carey.williams@rutgers.edu

Automated message: Thanks for sharing this event! If you can, please remember to update this listing after your event with a link to the recording. You can do that by coming back to your event here in Connect Extension, clicking "Manage Event" and then "Edit Event." From there, I suggest adding the words "Recording Available Here" to the top of your event and linking out to the recording. Example: Recording Available Here

Thanks for helping us make this an awesome archive of resources for Cooperative Extension!

FAQs for Learn Calendar Users:

Will a recording be available?

That is entirely up to the host of this webinar/online event. If this is an Extension Foundation hosted event - we will update this calendar listing with a link to the recording usually within 48 hours. Keep in mind, many of the offerings found here in Connect Extension are brought to you by your colleagues across the system. While we encourage them to update their listings with recordings, it is entirely up to them.

How do I know if it is an Extension-hosted event?

Extension Foundation posts publicly our events to two calendars - the Extension Foundation Member Calendar and the Opportunities for Cooperative Extension Calendar.  All other events coming from across Cooperative Extension are posted to the Learn Calendar or to one of the regional calendars. All calendars populate to the same main calendar on Connect Extension. To tell the difference between what events are posted to what calendars easily, you'll see the name of the calendar posted above the title of the event if you scroll to the top.

What if I have trouble accessing this webinar?

Please contact the author of this calendar event. The individual that posted this event will have their username automatically listed at the bottom of the body of their post, right above the social media buttons. When you hover over that name, you are able to send them a private message.
