Jayne McBurney, M.S., and Dr. Carolyn Bird, of N.C. State University, will present Home Ownership: When is the right time?

The purchase of a home is often the single largest financial transaction that an individual or family will make. The home buying process can seem complex, as there are many factors that determine when is the right time to buy a home. This is especially true for service members given that periodic relocation is typically an inherent part of military service. This web conference will discuss the home buying process including: financial readiness for the purchase, how to determine housing affordability and service –related considerations that may influence the purchase decision.

Jayne McBurney, M.S. is an Extension Agent in Family & Consumer Sciences in Johnston County, NC. She is a Certified Housing Counselor and Certified Reverse Mortgage Counselor and teaches monthly Homebuyer Education workshops.

Dr. Carolyn Bird is an Assistant Professor at North Carolina State University and Family Resource Management Specialist for NC Cooperative Extension. She is the Principal Investigator on the Military Families Learning Network's Personal Finance Professional Development Project.

About the Extension Foundation

The Extension Foundation was formed in 2006 by Extension Directors and Administrators. Today, the Foundation partners with Cooperative Extension through liaison roles and a formal plan of work with the Extension Committee on Organization and Policy (ECOP) to increase system capacity while providing programmatic services, and helping Extension programs scale and investigate new methods and models for implementing programs. The Foundation provides professional development to Cooperative Extension professionals and offers exclusive services to its members. In 2020 and 2021, the Extension Foundation has awarded 85% of its direct funding back to the Cooperative Extension System, 100% of funds are used to support Cooperative Extension initiatives.
