Many occupational therapists (OTs) and physical therapists (PTs) do not have experience in farm culture, farm work, and farm assistive technology. Nebraska AgrAbility holds a CEU-accrediting course each year to educate such professionals in all three of those areas. This presentation will describe what the Nebraska team does to prepare for the day, how they recruit OTs and PTs, what is taught on during the 8-hour course, how a farm visit with an AgrAbility client is conducted, and what additional resources may be helpful. OTs & PTs will go away with treatment ideas to implement into practice.
Our presenter:
Emily Jacobson has been with the Nebraska AgrAbility team for nine years and currently serves as the program manager and lead rural rehabilitation specialist under nonprofit partner Easterseals Nebraska. Her goal in client services is to give each client the best experience so that they modify their practices, not their dreams. Emily grew up on a multi-generational farm in northeast Nebraska with cow/calf pairs, corn, soybeans, and alfalfa. She married into a farming operation as well with a mid-sized corn, soybean, and alfalfa operation with feeder cattle. She is very active in her husbandβs farm repair business, raising their family, and many organizations in her community. Emily holds a masterβs degree in occupational therapy and is passionate about advocating for clients and ensuring that they have all the proper tools to overcome their limitations/disabilities and do their jobs in a safe manner.
A question & answer period is scheduled after the presentation.
