Bottom Line Agricultural Summit at the National Energy Center of Excellence on February 21 and 22 in Bismark, Noth Dakota

BISMARCK, N.D., Feb 16, 2024 – The collaborative conference between the USDA-ARS Northern Great Plains Research Laboratory, the Area 4 Cooperative Research Farm, The Burleigh County Soil Conservation District, and The Menoken Farm returns for their 2024 gathering – The Bottom Line Agricultural Summit.  The event is free and open to the public, though registration is required to secure a catered meal.

This year’s speakers include Dr. Rattan Lal from Ohio State University; Dr. Samiran Banerjee from NDSU; consultant Dr. Thomas Dykstra; entrepreneur Zack Smith; Janna Bystrykh, Head of the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture; research scientists, and regional producers conversationally sharing their experiences for an audience of farmers, ranchers, industry, and researchers.

DETAILS:

  • The theme of Bottom Line Agricultural Summit 24 is the Currency of Carbon, but there is a wide range of agricultural topics.
  • Day 1 keynote speaker is Dr. Rattan Lal, a well-known researcher on soil science and founder and director of the Carbon Management and Sequestration Center at The Ohio State University. Lal received the World Food Prize in 2020 and the World Agriculture Prize in 2018.  Recently, he was appointed to the Board for International Food and Agricultural Development.
  • Day 2 keynote speaker is Dr. Samiran Banerjee, Assistant Professor in Microbiological Sciences at North Dakota State University, presenting results from his comprehensive North Dakota Agriculture Microbiome project. Banerjee introduced the project at the conference in 2019 and has some exciting results from this agricultural microbiome project to share.
  • Day 2 will feature the U.S. premiere of the film “Great Pla(i)ns,” a documentary that examines the experiences of farmers and researchers from North Dakota to the Texas panhandle. There will be a Q&A with the director, followed by a producer panel made up of regional producers featured in the film.
