Prescribed fire is a critical and effective method to help mitigate the risk of wildfires, but there are significant barriers to using this method responsibly. A lack of personnel with the knowledge and operational skills to implement prescribed fires contributes to these barriers as many states do not provide the much-needed education and training on prescribed fires to the public.
