National Urban Extension Leaders

Get engaged with NUEL! The National Urban Extension Leaders (NUEL) began in 2013 as a grass-roots effort of a group of passionate and committed urban Extension educators with the mission to advocate and advance the strategic importance and long-term value of urban Extension activities by being relevant locally, responsive statewide, and recognized nationally.

Year-Round Advocacy

The annual Joint Council of Extension Professionals (JCEP) Public Issues Leadership Development (PILD) conference will be held next week in Virginia. The theme of Year-Round Advocacy is important to all Extension professionals across all program areas and recognizes Extension’s ongoing ability to connect national, regional, and local advocates to meet the challenges of economic development, youth and adult programming, and emerging issues to strengthen and empower local communities and constituents.

General sessions at PILD include relationship building, partnership and funding, building capacity, and engagement skills as a public leader for Extension. There are multiple break-out sessions that focus on tools, programs, and evaluation, and as always there will be time for association meetings to network with your colleagues. The bus tour to national monuments is a conference twilight adventure.

If you missed PILD this year, be sure to plan for it next year. Registration fees also include access to pre-conference webinars to help you get ready to maximize your visit to D.C.

About the Extension Foundation

The Extension Foundation was formed in 2006 by Extension Directors and Administrators. Today, the Foundation partners with Cooperative Extension through liaison roles and a formal plan of work with the Extension Committee on Organization and Policy (ECOP) to increase system capacity while providing programmatic services, and helping Extension programs scale and investigate new methods and models for implementing programs. The Foundation provides professional development to Cooperative Extension professionals and offers exclusive services to its members. In 2020 and 2021, the Extension Foundation has awarded 85% of its direct funding back to the Cooperative Extension System, 100% of funds are used to support Cooperative Extension initiatives.
