National Urban Extension Leaders

Get engaged with NUEL! The National Urban Extension Leaders (NUEL) began in 2013 as a grass-roots effort of a group of passionate and committed urban Extension educators with the mission to advocate and advance the strategic importance and long-term value of urban Extension activities by being relevant locally, responsive statewide, and recognized nationally.

Southern Region NUEL Award Proposals

 

NATIONAL URBAN EXTENSION LEADERSHIP AWARD

Purpose: Recognize Extension Leaders who have made exceptional contributions to urban programming.  One regional winner will be selected from 1890 institutions, and one regional winner will be selected from 1862 institutions.



Eligibility:

  • Applications can be made by individuals or teams.  
  • Individuals with at least three years of Extension service are eligible to apply.
  • Programs with at least three years of documented impact can also be nominated.
  • Award winners should be expected to share a five-minute summary of their work during the “NUEL Southern Region Conference.

Timeline:

  • Nomination materials must be submitted by this Qualtrics survey only by May 1, 2023.
  • The awardee will be selected and notified ASAP
  • The regional awardee will be recognized at the “2023 NUEL Southern Region Conference” on August 8-10, 2023.

  • Nomination Letter from a direct supervisor or another administrator familiar with your work, describing the impact of the nominee or program on Urban Extension. Please provide detailed information and links to any online content that can be referenced during the selection process.
  • Brief Bio highlighting the relevant accomplishments of individual nominees or team members.
  • One Page Program Summary, highlighting impact, community engagement, sustainability, and demonstrated leadership in urban programming.


NUEL Southern Region Innovation Awards

Southern Region Program Innovator Awards – (award does not advance to national)

The purpose of the NUEL Innovator Award is to recognize individuals and teams whose programming incorporates adaptation, innovation, impact, and commitment to urban communities. 

An innovative program could be one that adapts an existing successful program to the needs of an urban audience or could be a completely new program. In addition, innovation could include expanding to a new audience or expansion of a current audience, a new program delivery method(s), or another creative approach with demonstrated strong impact. 

Eligibility:

One individual and one team will be awarded to the faculty/staff of 1890 institutions, and one individual and one team will be awarded to the faculty/staff of 1862 institutions.

  • The awardee will be selected and notified ASAP.
  • The regional awardees will be recognized at the “2023 NUEL Southern Region Conference” - August 8-10, 2023.

The narrative must include all of the following criteria – limit two pages, double-spaced, 12 pt. font.

  • Executive summary of innovation – limited to 50 words
  • Description of innovation
  • Program impacts
  • Program replication potential/ replication plan

About the Extension Foundation

The Extension Foundation was formed in 2006 by Extension Directors and Administrators. Today, the Foundation partners with Cooperative Extension through liaison roles and a formal plan of work with the Extension Committee on Organization and Policy (ECOP) to increase system capacity while providing programmatic services, and helping Extension programs scale and investigate new methods and models for implementing programs. The Foundation provides professional development to Cooperative Extension professionals and offers exclusive services to its members. In 2020 and 2021, the Extension Foundation has awarded 85% of its direct funding back to the Cooperative Extension System, 100% of funds are used to support Cooperative Extension initiatives.
