National Urban Extension Leaders

Get engaged with NUEL! The National Urban Extension Leaders (NUEL) began in 2013 as a grass-roots effort of a group of passionate and committed urban Extension educators with the mission to advocate and advance the strategic importance and long-term value of urban Extension activities by being relevant locally, responsive statewide, and recognized nationally.

Help Increase Visibility of Urban Extension Programs

A team of Extension faculty from the Northeast is working on a project to increase the visibility of Urban Extension programs through a communications campaign. The project is funded through an award from the Northeast Executive Directors (NEED). The project team has created a quick survey, 3-4 minutes, that we are asking Urban Extension faculty and staff to share across the Northeast region with urban audiences. This survey will gauge community members recognition of the local extension logo and programs. Results will be used to help direct the development of the communications campaign.

If you can help, please reach out to one of the Co-PIs (contact information below) to let them know your interest in assisting on this project. If you are interested, you will be provided with a flyer that will invite community members to take the survey.

Survey participants will be eligible to enter a raffle for a gift card if they provide their contact information. We are asking that the flyers and survey links be shared with urban community members that do not already participate in Extension programming. For example, having the flyer at an open community event, asking a partner to share the link with their contacts, or distributing the flyer at urban community centers (faith-based organizations, retails options, etc). We will be asking partners to redistribute the survey again after the communications campaign has been developed (expected Fall 2024). Please feel free to reach out with any questions!

About the Extension Foundation

The Extension Foundation was formed in 2006 by Extension Directors and Administrators. Today, the Foundation partners with Cooperative Extension through liaison roles and a formal plan of work with the Extension Committee on Organization and Policy (ECOP) to increase system capacity while providing programmatic services, and helping Extension programs scale and investigate new methods and models for implementing programs. The Foundation provides professional development to Cooperative Extension professionals and offers exclusive services to its members. In 2020 and 2021, the Extension Foundation has awarded 85% of its direct funding back to the Cooperative Extension System, 100% of funds are used to support Cooperative Extension initiatives.
