LEED for Cities is a comprehensive framework for local governments to manage community-wide sustainability efforts. It incorporates social, economic, and environmental performance indicators, along with standards and strategies that allow for effective benchmarking and communication of progress.
LEED for Cities grew out of a collaboration with the NLC, Local Governments for Sustainability (ICLEI), the Center for American Progress and the National Association of Counties to develop a framework for local sustainability, originally known as STAR. Eight years after its launch, USGBC stepped up to accelerate adoption of the framework for local sustainability, rebranding it as LEED for Cities and folding it into our slate of local government services
