Community Gardens

Lunch ‘n Learn Webinars

2014 Winter/Spring  —  Wednesdays 12:30pm-1:15pm EST

(30 mins presentation, 15 mins questions)

May 21st    Friendship Gardens, Plots to Thicken Community. Learn how a network of school, faith, therapy, & community gardens work together to grow food for meals on wheels.

Henry Owen, Program Director, Friendship Gardens, Charlotte, NC

In 2010 Slow Food Charlotte and Friendship Trays, our local meals on wheels program teamed up to start Friendship Gardens. We wanted to teach gardening and grow food that is donated to the meals on wheels program. Today Friendship Gardens supports 73 gardens across Charlotte. Our gardens fall into three categories: schools, faith based, and therapy. Learn how a network of gardens grows food for a nonprofit agency, how we form garden partnerships, how we engage volunteers, and how we support and train our volunteer garden leaders.
