A Leader's Framework for Decision Making: A strategy for dealing with complexity

A Leader's Framework for Decision Making: A strategy for dealing with complexity, by Anne Adrian, Kevin Gamble, Beth Raney, and Jerry Thomas. This session will be an online version of the recent complexity workshop conducted at The Ohio State University Leadership for Tomorrow Conference. The presenters will start with an exercise where attendees will define a problem or issue the Extension system is facing, discuss a framework to help to classify the issue, examine strategies for addressing different problems, and see some examples of some recent sensemaking exercises conducted by the presenters with implications for the future of Cooperative Extension. Ample time will be allotted for discussion of problems identified in the opening exercise, and for participant questions and group discussion. This Professional Development session is offered in partnership with the ACE Leadership & Management SIG. (for all Extension)

About the Extension Foundation

The Extension Foundation was formed in 2006 by Extension Directors and Administrators. Today, the Foundation partners with Cooperative Extension through liaison roles and a formal plan of work with the Extension Committee on Organization and Policy (ECOP) to increase system capacity while providing programmatic services, and helping Extension programs scale and investigate new methods and models for implementing programs. The Foundation provides professional development to Cooperative Extension professionals and offers exclusive services to its members. In 2020 and 2021, the Extension Foundation has awarded 85% of its direct funding back to the Cooperative Extension System, 100% of funds are used to support Cooperative Extension initiatives.
