Innovations in Entrepreneurship, Especially Among Youth

Innovations in Entrepreneurship, Especially Among Youth

In low-income countries most employment is in own account and family employment. New models of agriculture are arising, often incorporating aspects of increased knowledge, technology and sophistication. Innovations in the development of value-added agricultural products is attractive to entrepreneurs, especially women and youth. In developing countries, such entrepreneurship is often in the gig economy, where populations lacking land or capital are able to successfully operate. Innovations in micro-financing also open opportunities for populations previously denied entry to participation in agricultural businesses.

We live in a rapidly changing world, many new business forms have replaced the traditional business form. For example, Google is using drones to deliver goods to the door, or Amazon.com is using 200 helicopters to deliver goods to the door. Therefore, the requirement to be creative, flexible to adapt to the new is the first requirement for the quality of an entrepreneur in this rapidly changing and risky world.

About the Extension Foundation

The Extension Foundation was formed in 2006 by Extension Directors and Administrators. Today, the Foundation partners with Cooperative Extension through liaison roles and a formal plan of work with the Extension Committee on Organization and Policy (ECOP) to increase system capacity while providing programmatic services, and helping Extension programs scale and investigate new methods and models for implementing programs. The Foundation provides professional development to Cooperative Extension professionals and offers exclusive services to its members. In 2020 and 2021, the Extension Foundation has awarded 85% of its direct funding back to the Cooperative Extension System, 100% of funds are used to support Cooperative Extension initiatives.
