Manufacturing Skills Certification: Attracting & Retaining Talented Workers in Rural America

Presented by Brent Weil, The Manufacturing Institute

Many rural areas are seeing signs of a manufacturing resurgence, driven in part by new technologies, increased energy production such as shale gas, and structural changes in global trade. But sustaining that growth will require a pipeline of workers, particularly for skills required in machining, fabrication, welding, and other technical occupations. Enter industry-recognized certifications, which set a national standard for career and technical education as defined by manufacturers.

This webinar will feature examples of rural areas that have seized the opportunity, convened their manufacturers, and identified stackable credentials to meet the growing demand. Successful regions find that training that meets industry standards is also an economic development tool to attract and retain manufacturers.

You will also learn how regional leaders engaged economic development, workforce development, educators, and employers in strong and sustainable public-private partnerships. Any region can target key manufacturing sectors and give maximum opportunity for individuals to enter into manufacturing and to continue working and learning.
