Motivating employees — A discussion based on the book Drive

Join Beth Forbes and the ACE Leadership and Management SIG on March 1 in a discussion about motivating employees based on the book "Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us." Author Daniel H. Pink contends that traditional approaches to employee motivation – like financial rewards for good behavior – don’t work. What does motivate employees, according to Pink, is meaningful work and the ability to direct their own lives and opportunities to learn and create new things. For many of us who have lean budgets, the good news is that the work we do should and does have the potential to really motivate our staff. If you get a chance to read the book or not, please join the discussion as we share insights into how to really motivate employees.

About the Extension Foundation

The Extension Foundation was formed in 2006 by Extension Directors and Administrators. Today, the Foundation partners with Cooperative Extension through liaison roles and a formal plan of work with the Extension Committee on Organization and Policy (ECOP) to increase system capacity while providing programmatic services, and helping Extension programs scale and investigate new methods and models for implementing programs. The Foundation provides professional development to Cooperative Extension professionals and offers exclusive services to its members. In 2020 and 2021, the Extension Foundation has awarded 85% of its direct funding back to the Cooperative Extension System, 100% of funds are used to support Cooperative Extension initiatives.
