The highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) outbreak has become the worst poultry disease outbreak in U.S. history. As of August 2015, the USDA reports 223 detections affecting over 48 million birds in 15 states. These birds have either died or been euthanized to control disease spread. The webcast will provide a current update of the outbreak and highlight mortality management options. An emphasis will be placed on proper in-house composting procedures and lessons learned from the 2015 outbreak as presenters spent time in the field assisting with disposal efforts during the outbreak.
