Managing Stress during Natural Disasters

Sandra J. Bailey, PhD, CFLE Family & Human Development Specialist for Montana State University Extension will present the third session in the Montana State University Fire and Drought Webinar Series on Aug. 16 at 9:30 a.m.

“During this summer of drought and wildfires have you noticed that you just don’t feel well, that your kids are crying more frequently, or your spouse seems distant?” asks Bailey. “This could be due to the level of stress you, and your family, are under.”

Bailey’s presentation, “Managing Stress during Natural Disasters”, will discuss why it is equally important to manage stress as it is to deal with physical survival. This webinar is directed to anyone who is dealing with natural disaster and will share strategies for successfully surviving the event.

The Montana State University Extension Fire and Drought Webinar Series is free and open to the public. Sessions will be held each Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. through Sept.13.

The fourth session, “Variability in Stock Water Quality and Changes Due to Drought” will be hosted by Mark Petersen, research leader at Fort Keogh Livestock and Range Research Laboratory. Petersen’s presentation will take place Aug. 23 at 9:30 a.m. and is directed toward anyone who has concerns about stock water quality impacts on beef cattle productivity.

Each session will be archived and remain available via MSU Extension’s Fire and Drought Resources web page, http://www.msuextension.org/wildfire/.
