Horizon Report: Cooperative Extension Edition Overview

eXtension has been working with the New Media Consortium and the ECOP Innovation Task Force to create a Horizon Report for Cooperative Extension 2016-2021. The report looks at technologies, challenges, and opportunities that sit on the horizon --- from present day to about 3-5 years out. In this web meeting Jerry Thomas, Director, eXtension I-Three Labs, will provide an overview of the report, and begin a discussion around the innovations in the report and how Cooperative Extension can embrace them. Come with your questions and ideas for the conversation.

The report,  the NMC Technology Outlook for Cooperative Extension 2016-2021, was jointly released by the New Media Consortium (NMC), the eXtension Foundation, and the ECOP Innovation Task Force in conjunction with this eXtension Foundation webinar series. In addition, Jamie Seger, a leader of the EdTech Learning Network and member of the ECOP Innovation Task Force, developed a two-page summary of the report.

Additional webinars featuring Extension Professionals working with some of the horizon technologies included in the report will be held this fall. Prepare to be excited and inspired by the ways technology can open new worlds in Extension programming!

About the Extension Foundation

The Extension Foundation was formed in 2006 by Extension Directors and Administrators. Today, the Foundation partners with Cooperative Extension through liaison roles and a formal plan of work with the Extension Committee on Organization and Policy (ECOP) to increase system capacity while providing programmatic services, and helping Extension programs scale and investigate new methods and models for implementing programs. The Foundation provides professional development to Cooperative Extension professionals and offers exclusive services to its members. In 2020 and 2021, the Extension Foundation has awarded 85% of its direct funding back to the Cooperative Extension System, 100% of funds are used to support Cooperative Extension initiatives.

This technology is supported in part by New Technologies for Ag Extension (funding opportunity no.
