Results from the May 2020 Farm Journal Monthly Story Lead Contest

Last month, the eXtension Foundation launched a monthly story lead contest in partnership with Farm Journal in the Farm Journal Monthly Story Lead Contest group here in Connect Extension. Monthly winners, along with their Extension Directors and Administrators, have the chance to work with Farm Journal to further develop their story and have it published in Farm Journal media. The topic area for the May 2020 contest was about the important work Extension is doing to help farmers and rural communities create, conserve, or otherwise manage wildlife habitat.

@Jeff Goodwin , Interim Associate Dean for Extension at the University of Hawaii at Manoa submitted the winning story lead: Evolution of Screenhouses in Hawai‘i Agriculture. Read the full story lead here

@Lauren Hood, 4-H Extension Agent at Clemson University, submitted a story that was selected as the runner-up: 4-H Wildlife Food Plot Project. The full story lead is available here

Congrats to both the University of Hawaii at Manoa and Clemson University!

June 2020 Contest

The June 2020 Story Lead Contest has been posted and is due on Friday, June 26th! For June 2020, Farm Journal would like to know how you are reducing food waste. More details about the June contest are available in the Farm Journal Monthly Story Lead Contest group here in Connect Extension. Keep in mind, submissions are just story leads - not full story narratives!

About the Extension Foundation

The Extension Foundation was formed in 2006 by Extension Directors and Administrators. Today, the Foundation partners with Cooperative Extension through liaison roles and a formal plan of work with the Extension Committee on Organization and Policy (ECOP) to increase system capacity while providing programmatic services, and helping Extension programs scale and investigate new methods and models for implementing programs. The Foundation provides professional development to Cooperative Extension professionals and offers exclusive services to its members. In 2020 and 2021, the Extension Foundation has awarded 85% of its direct funding back to the Cooperative Extension System, 100% of funds are used to support Cooperative Extension initiatives.
