New publication explores Utah State Extension's remote work program

A new publication - Making Remote Work: Extension program boosts opportunities, salaries in rural Utah - is available from the Extension Foundation.

The publication shares the story of Utah State University’s Rural Online Initiative (ROI), a training and certification program launched in 2018 to boost the capacity of program participants to be effective remote workers. Since its launch, more than 300 rural residents have secured employment after completing the Master Remote Work Professional (MRWP) certificate course. It’s anticipated that several hundred additional MWRP graduates will find work this year.

The ROI program has been effective in addressing rural unemployment. Extension professionals from other states can use the program with those they serve through the ROI affiliate program.

The publication was produced as part of a project supported by a grant from the New Technologies in Agricultural Extension (NTAE) program. The fellow, Dr. Paul Hill of Utah State University Extension, was supported in his work by the Extension Foundation. Dr. Hill also co-authored the publication.

The Extension Foundation has recently released several new and previously published titles on a wide range of topics including a Northeast ecosystems services assessment, DEI, Oklahoma State’s master irrigator program, creating mass media campaigns, game-based education, wellness in “tough times,” innovating curriculum, prescribed fire, emergency preparation and response, understanding food labels, and building farm and farm family resilience.

In addition to releasing new publications, we're migrating our previously published titles to flipping books. You can find the entire library of publications (now numbering nearly two dozen) here. New publications are being added on a regular basis, so check back often.

About the Extension Foundation

The Extension Foundation was formed in 2006 by Extension Directors and Administrators. Today, the Foundation partners with Cooperative Extension through liaison roles and a formal plan of work with the Extension Committee on Organization and Policy (ECOP) to increase system capacity while providing programmatic services, and helping Extension programs scale and investigate new methods and models for implementing programs. The Foundation provides professional development to Cooperative Extension professionals and offers exclusive services to its members. In 2020 and 2021, the Extension Foundation has awarded 85% of its direct funding back to the Cooperative Extension System, 100% of funds are used to support Cooperative Extension initiatives.
