Join the MyPlate team for a preview of two MyPlate tools that will help Americans make healthy food choices. New to the USDA - Shop Simple with MyPlate, allows individuals to find cost-saving opportunities in their local area and discover new ways to prepare budget-friendly foods. We will present the background on the development of the tool as well as demo the key features including a SNAP locator, rewards programs, and more. Additionally, we will show exciting updates to our popular MyPlate Quiz that launched with the release of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2020-2025. The quiz provides users the opportunity to learn about their eating habits and offers tips, resources, and tools to help them make simple changes.

Jo Mandelson graduated from James Madison University (JMU) in 2005 and earned a bachelor’s in International Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. In 2016, she completed her master’s in Nutrition and Physical Activity at JMU and her dietetic internship at Virginia Tech the following year. In her previous role, she was the Associate Director of Nutrition at the American Diabetes Association (ADA). Her work at ADA included advising on internal and external nutrition policies, nutrition education programs, marketing strategies, and strategic partnerships. A recent addition to the Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion at USDA, she is eager to use her talents and skills to promote MyPlate and the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. She is especially interested in the intersection of nutrition education and healthy equity, as well as the increasing need for culturally inclusive resources for diverse populations.

Stephenie L. Fu

Stephenie Fu has concentrated her energy over more than 25 years on innovating for positive behavior change, particularly in food and nutrition. As Senior Policy Advisor at the USDA’s Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion (CNPP), Stephenie is part of the leadership team focused on driving strategic integration across CNPP’s work. She served as a writer for the current and previous editions of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, and as an advisor on the reevaluation of the Thrifty Food Plan, 2021. She works with CNPP’s nutrition education team on translating these foundational technical resources for professionals into messages, materials and personalizable tools for consumers, with a particular focus on cultural diversity, inclusion and reaching under-served communities. Prior to joining CNPP, she was a specialist in social marketing and behavior change working on national healthy eating initiatives across sectors, from leading the National Cancer Institute’s 5 A Day for Better Health communication campaign to helping to drive the development of Guiding Stars, the nation’s first in-grocery nutrition navigation system to help shoppers make healthier food choices at point of purchase, as well as nutrition education campaigns for the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society.
Corey Holland, RD

Corey Holland has over 15 years of experience with USDA developing web and other technology tools to disseminate nutrition information to consumers and other audiences. She joined the Office of Nutrition Marketing and Promotion at the USDA Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion in 2014, where she manages the MyPlate.gov website, contributes to the Start Simple with MyPlate app, and develops content for a variety of consumer resources. Prior to joining CNPP she worked at the Food and Nutrition Information Center (FNIC) at the National Agricultural Library. Corey earned her bachelor’s degree in Management Dietetics from Penn State University.
Erica Evans, RD

Erica Evans is a registered dietitian and has been a nutritionist consultant at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service, Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion (CNPP) for 7 years. She has an interest in technology and using web-based tools to educate various audiences about healthy eating. Erica is part of the communications and marketing team that developed the Start Simple with MyPlate campaign and supporting resources, including: the MyPlate Quiz, Start Simple with MyPlate app, MyPlate Kitchen and other nutrition education tools. Erica completed her dietetic internship and earned her bachelor’s degree in Dietetics from the University of Maryland.
