Extension Professionals Working with Families of Individuals with Disabilities: Special Needs Trusts & ABLE Accounts Webinar

OneOp is providing a professional development webinar for family support providers at 11:00 a.m. ET on August 24, 2022 to discuss ‘Special Needs Trusts and ABLE Accounts’ and the different options available for individuals with disabilities. Webinar presenter, Alison Packard, with Packard Law firm in San Antonio, TX, is a special needs planning attorney and focuses on estate planning, guardianship, alternatives to guardianship, general probate work and government benefits eligibility.

Packard will discuss how special needs trust differ from other trusts and examine the use of ABLE accounts and describe the strengths and limitations of this special needs planning tool. The presenter will also compare the effectiveness of ABLE accounts versus special needs trusts in maintaining eligibility for needs-based government benefits, avoiding Medicaid paybacks, providing alternatives to guardianships, and offering long-term financial strategies for families.

For those Extension professionals looking for continuing education credit, this webinar will provide 1.0 CE credit for Certified Family Life Educators (CFLE), Social Workers, Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT), Board Certified Patient Advocates (BCPA), Case Managers, and Financial Counselors.

About the Extension Foundation

The Extension Foundation was formed in 2006 by Extension Directors and Administrators. Today, the Foundation partners with Cooperative Extension through liaison roles and a formal plan of work with the Extension Committee on Organization and Policy (ECOP) to increase system capacity while providing programmatic services, and helping Extension programs scale and investigate new methods and models for implementing programs.
